If you choose not to use the Hydros program to flash your Incite, here is a tutorial doing it the "old fashioned" way.

First off: Please use Windows XP. The steps below will likely not work on Vista.
When you flash your device, all data on your phone will be wiped clean, so back up anything you want to keep.

Note: Flashing to 6.1 or 6.5 ROM is the same. You just use different ".dz"  ROM file.

More information available on this thread:
http://www.lg-incite.com/lg-incite-tutorials/windows-phones(not-suppose-to-be-called-mobile-anymore)-6-5-rom-get-it-now!!!!!/msg13459/#msg13459

    • Download the official LG 10x ROM executable file above and the new ROM file (.dz) of your choice from Spocky.
    • Delete all LGMOBILEAX folders from your computer, if they are there already (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LGMOBILEAX)
    • Run the 10x ROM exe file ON YOUR COMPUTER - NOT YOUR PHONE, and wait when it gets to the update screen (with choices to update or not).
    • Replace the ROM that was created in the LGMOBILEAX/Phones file with Spocky's, renaming the Spocky's with the old one's name
    • Get your phone into Emergency Download mode
      • Turn off phone
      • Unplug phone from computer (if plugged in)
      • Press and hold down the Volume Down and lock buttons and, while still holding them down, plug your phone into the computer using the LG USB cable that came with the phone.
    • Go back to the screen for updating, and click the correct button to update the phone. If you get a message that says that it can't find your phone, unplug the USB cable and plug it back in - Don't touch your phone - keep it in Emergency Download Mode.
    • The flash begins.
    • When it is completed, the phone will reset – you may need to press the call end button to turn it back on.

If you get a BSOD, don't panic!

    Try these steps:
    1. Remove battery from device and unplug the device from the computer
    2. Reboot your computer and make sure it is in a stable state with NOTHING running except what started when you rebooted.
    3. Wait 5 minutes
    4. Replace the device's battery and power it on - DON'T PLUG IT INTO THE COMPUTER YET!
    5. The device may start without a problem.
    6. If not: Put the phone into emergency download mode - it is possible you won't see the "Emergency Download" screen
    7. Flash the phone as before to the ROM of your choice. Keep going even if the phone seems "dead".

The Incite has proved difficult to brick - please don't be the first.

    Have fun...
You can always flash back to 10x if you don't like the new ROM.

    Background:
    • The Incite originally shipped with firmware version 10h.
    • LG released a new firmware, 10i, which also addressed the issues users were having with SMS sending
    • LG quietly released a new firmware update, 10x, which offered a customizable Home screen toolbar, alert overlay for text and email icons on main screen, Favorites menu usability enhancement, Voice Command usability enhancements, Text messaging enhancements, and other bug fixes
    • Spocky and team released a couple of version 6.1 ROMs (Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional) that made the Incite speedier and removed most of the AT&T Crapware
    • Spocky and team released a 6.5 ROM (Windows Mobile 6.5), which features Microsoft's new Start menu and Titanium Today screen.

The Windows Mobile 6.5 Today screen has been dubbed "Titanium" (by Microsoft?). So when you update your phone to 6.5, what you see when you boot up the screen is, indeed, "TITANIUM".

In the "stock" LG Incite 6.1 ROM, LG used its own Today screen overlay. In 6.5, the default "Today" screen (Titanium) is shown, which can accept Titanium "plug-ins" (The LG "Today" screen can also be customized via the "Items" selector in the Today settings).

If you flashed to 6.5, you will see the Blue Default Titanium Today screen. You can go back to the LG today screen by going into your Today settings and deselecting "Windows Default" and selecting the today items you want to appear. The Start menu will still be the 6.5 "honeycomb" layout.

For the record, this method is not my own. It was the method I first used to flash my device to a new ROM. (I am pretty sure either Workingman or Spocky first put out the instructions. I merely tried to organize the method a little more clearly.

I sticky'd this.  I'm seeing way too many topics of users asking how to flash 6.5 and 6.1 and in general just how to flash.    I'm going to point all new users to this.

     Grin
    Concise, and well written.
    Piece of cake.
As for 6.5....... well, it's different

Thanks for the "how to".  I'd flashed earlier to the 10x, but forgotten details, and wasn't sure if there were differences in flashing to 6.5.
Please keep this thread sticky, and if possible, update with ROM links, etc. as they come available.
This is a nice short thread to use for a thumbnail synopsis of what's going on currently.
Maybe lock it (except for OP) in order to keep it short?

Thank you for your kind words, 'lurker, and the cookie.
I'm not sure if the cookies mean anything else other than a type of rating system to let others know who has been helpful (and who hasn't as the case may be).

I'm pretty sure this topic is sticky. I'll update it with the latest ROM from rkrishnan2012. Good idea.

Hey, I tried spocky's 6.5 rom and it worked fine ( except my alarm didn't go off almost making me miss getting my kids off to school ). But I installed M2D, G alarm, s2u2, s2v, clean RAM and that's it. It worked fine all night but sometime today, out of the blue, it froze. So I tried to soft reset and then wham, it just kept booting up and restarting so I had to hard reset...again. So then I thought it's cool but I like the stablility of 6.1 so I figured I try spocky's complete 6.1 rom.....nope. B.S.O.D. Everytime I tried it, so I went back to spocky's 6.5. Why can't I run 6.1? I guess if all else fails I'll go back to V10x but I really wanted something with all the att crap gone.

Try the ultra-clean Hydros 23008 ROM.

It's supposed to be fairly good - no internet sharing yet, though.

I personally like xCite3 - I don't have nearly as much "stuff" as you do, so it's very stable. I think you have too many 3rd party add-ons that are in conflict with each other and with the OS. - just my opinion.

    For example:
*6.5 comes with a "slide to unlock" out of the box
*6.5 picture viewer uses a "slide to view" motif - slide your finger across the screen to go forward and back.

The only thing I might try myself from your list (to have more of a "Palm-like" launcher), would be M2D.

I'm not to worried about the s2u2, and I see how the s2v style is on 6.5. But I do like how the 2 together gets you the big picture caller id. I neeeeed g alarm. And since my last hard reset I haven't re-installed M2D. Clean Ram I can do without, but it is pretty nifty. I don't know, maybe I'll try try the ultra-clean Hydros 23008 ROM. Thanks for the advise.

    DanG,
There is an easier and much faster way to flash the phone.  I will let you decide if you want to add it.
The officical installer minus the ROM file is only 5.4MB!
    Step:1 Simply copy/move LGMOBILEAX to: c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
Step:2 Copy cooked ROM file to ...\LGMOBILEAX\Phone
    Step:3 Rename cooked_ROM.dz to CT810_V10x_Ship.dz
    Step:4 Start the updater (SP_Starter.exe) from ...\LGMOBILEAX\SmartPhoneSetup
Step:5 Follow on screen prompt and it may or may not ask you to install USB driver. (if you see downloading stuff, you have mess up the above steps).

If you want to drive more members to this site, you can even create a windows installer to automate all the above steps.  A installer for dummy.  I wonder if I should?

You downloaded a bad ROM if you're trying hydro 23008 final!  You should visit http://www.lg-incite.com/rom-dev-and-discussion/hydros-23008-final-edition-get-it-now!!!!!!!!/
