No... now's a good time.  You'll have a base backup.  I havn't used sprite in awhile (I use spb backup but sprite is really good too).  When I open sprite, I have 4 icons, backup, restore, schedule, options.  Click on backup, it asks what to backup.  Leave the default there and at the bottom you should see Next/Cancel.  Click on next and it will ask where to store the backup.  For me, I have a folder on my Storage Card called backups.  Click next and you should be good to go (it'll ask about resetting and stuff).  One more next and it should start (I think, again, it's been awhile).

And since you're on vacation Wink... here's a couple of other things I recommend:

Fingersuite
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459125

You know those tiny little menus, well, this makes them alot more finger friendly.  There's actually 2 apps in this.  One to increase the menu size, the other for message boxes.  The messagebox thing isn't really all that important to me so I only use the menu part.  After you install, you can set it up to run either one or the other or both (or none).

Microsoft .Net CF 3.5 (don't have the link handy but it's easy to find).

(Hey, you said you were on vacation and playing with your new phone is sooo fun) Smiley  Really, it can be addicting though.

I don't think that you need a base backup.  You would basically would have a copy of what would happen when you do a hard reset (which resets it to factory settings).  When you do a backup, put a copy of the backup file on your computer.

Sprite deletes the backup files after so often, so if you want to go back to a good configuration, you will still have it.  I only do this on occasions or before I start messing with stuff in the registry.

this is exactly why i don't think backing up right now is a good idea, i mean, it won't hurt the device, but i just don't see the benefit.

No debate here... just wanted to clarify my reasoning... first, it cost nothing to backup, second, I have a feeling that there's some things that were done to the phone.  For me, I have my exchange and personal email setup, owner info, etc.  Plus, you get the benefit of running the backup and making sure it completes, etc.  I just can't agree that backing up is never a good idea.... it's ALWAYS a good idea and after 20+ years in the IT field, I can say that with the upmost confidence.

Smiley  Yes, mobile shell is pretty sweet.  It really makes the phone more 'enjoyable' (if that's the right word).  I actually use several of spb products (spb backup, spb time (alarm replacement), spb weather and spb phone suite).  So far, they have ran great on the incite.

Good luck.. hope you're enjoying your 'vacation' Wink  I'm taking mine in a few weeks... can't wait.

kravy, i didn't mean it that way.  of course it's a good idea to back up. always have been. but from what i read about her situation, she might not installed anything yet since she doesn't know what to do with a CAB file.  then, if nothing has been installed yet, that backup file will be just the default configuration (as new, out of thebox) and that is the same result you get when you perform a hard reset.  do you understand my and tharam04's point of view?

Van... have you tried the latest release of s2u2?  The double locking thang is fixed.  I stopped using the callerid feature though (I use phonex now) and all the problems I had before went away Smiley  (well, expect for some reason s2u2 decides to stop locking after awhile and I have to reset to get it to lock again).
Is there a newer version than 2.01?
I went and bought the Mobile SHell, and I love it!
Like I said, the SPB stuff is very nice, but not free. There are ways to get it for free, it's just not 100% legal. I had almost all of SPB's products installed but I only paid for Mobile Shell because that's all I kept. I really love the 3 page lifestyle home screen, the contacts screen and the scheduling on the professional home screen. Just a hint: you may want to disable the battery widget, I get about 4 more hours of battery life since I turned it off.
Also, MS MyPhone is free and works well. Garmin XT is great, might help in your business. Just follow ClearD's instructions.

2.02c is the latest and greatest (well, as of this posting that is).  The double lock thing went away for me though with 2.00.  And like I said earlier, I stopped using s2u2's callerid override.  I really think that was what was causing any problem I had (sporadic freezes or unable to answer calls, etc).

And of course I understand where yall were coming from.  I was just stating that whenever somebody asks me if they should back up, my answer will always be yes (I guess if they were unable to charge their phone and needed it for a few days then ok, but other than that... )
